Why Study Current Events in Spanish Class?
1. For a democratic society to function, citizens must take an active interest in the news and current events.
2. Students can become competent lifelong learners when they learn how to use nonfiction materials to gain knowledge, solve problems, and make decisions.
3. Current events provide an opportunity for students to learn about the Spanish speaking world.
4. Current events provide an opportunity for students to use authentic foreign language and cultural materials. (Foreign Language Standard 3.2)
