AMHS Freshman Attends FFA Creed Career Development Event
Arabia Mountain High School FFA member T’Ashley Spence recently competed in the Area I FFA Creed Career Development Event. She placed and will compete in the North Region FFA Creed Speaking CDE. The event was held at Sonoraville High School in Calhoun, Ga, February 7, 2017.
AMHS Student Spends Day with Dr. Greene!
Iren Igbere had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Greene, Dekalb County School superintendent January 27, 2017. Irene is a part of the Dekalb County student advisory Board. During her time spent with Dr. Greene, she was introduced to a very busy day by his secretary. Her day was busy with tours of the school board building and different departments from Communication to CTAE. She was taken to the state capitol building where she met the Dekalb Senate Delegation. Her day ended with a Q & A community forum that evening. Her experience shadowing the superintendent was very informative and learned that Dr. Greene is a hardworking, passionate person who has the best interest for all Dekalb County students! 
AMHS Reading Bowl Team Takes 2nd Place at Regionals

The AMHS Reading Bowl Team took 2nd place honors against 12 other high school teams at the Metro Atlanta Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition held on February 4th. The team now advances to the North Georgia Divisional competition to be held on February 25th. Way to go Reading Bowl Rams! 
AMHS Students Take Honors at Tech Fair
Congratulations to the following AMHS Students for taking honors at the Dekalb County Technology Fair:
  • Corey Rolle - 2nd place in 3D Modeling, 
  • Kenya Higgins and Leigha Howard - 2nd place Digital Photography, 
  • Meklit Sultan 3rd Digital Photography, and 
  • Reed Parker - 1st place robotics. 
The first place winner moves on to compete at the State Technology Fair held at Macon Campus of Middle Georgia State College in Macon, Georgia on March 11, 2017.  Great Job to our technology students!
Actress Visits AMHS Drama Class

Film and TV actress Erica Ash
of "Real Husbands of Hollywood" and "Survivor's Remorse", came to speak to our AMHS drama students on Monday January 23rd about her pathway as an actress and overall entertainer. She also gave advice about professionalism in the theater community.  Many thanks to Ms. Ash for taking time from her schedule to share her experiences with our students and to our drama teacher Ms. Mathieu for coordinating the visit!  
Toys 'n' Tunes Toy Drive
Arabia Mountain’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter partnered with the AMHS library for a fundraiser called Toys N’ Tunes. The objective was to collect toys and ITunes and Google Play gift cards for the children at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and it was a huge success! One hundred forty-eight toys were donated to the hospital on December 23rd by President, Kailah Trice, and Treasurer, Artis Trice, just in time for the gift selection that the hospital was hosting for the children. Thank you to all who donated and participated!  
AMHS CTAE Program Wins Excellence Award!
Congratulations to our CTAE teachers and staff for winning the ITEEA Program Excellence Award.  Sponsored by the International Technology Engineering and Educators Association and Paxton/Patterson, The Program Excellence Award is one of the highest honors given to technology and engineering education programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The Program Excellence Award is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession and students. Awards are given to one program from each category from every state.  Congrats to our outstanding technology and engineering teachers for this honor!  
Congrats RAMS Varsity Football for an Outstanding Season!
We congratulate Coach Stanley Pritchett and the Varsity Football team for an outstanding season. The team won the Region 5A Championship and made it to the second round of the State Playoffs. It has been a season of firsts and we are proud of our Coaches and our student athletes. Many thanks to the Ram Nation for your support.  
Congrats Dr. Okoh our DCSD Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations to Dr. Fred Okoh for being named the Dekalb County Schools District wide Teacher of the Year. This marks the third year in a row that a district TOTY has been selected from our Arabia Mountain High School faculty!  Dr. Okoh, who is the AMHS Science Department Head and teaches chemistry, is now in the running for statewide Teacher of the Year!  Great job Dr. Okoh...we are so proud of you! 
AMHS National Science Bowl & Science Fair Winners!

During the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineer's 43rd annual conference, held in Raleigh, NC, 16 students participated in the STEM weekend science fair/science bowl competition. AMHS science bowl teams competed against 12 teams from across the country. All four AMHS teams made it to the semifinals round. Two of the teams (Rams 1 and Rams 2) were eliminated during the semi-final round. Rams 3 and AMHS 1 competed in the championship round with AMHS 1 taking first place and Rams 3 taking second place.  (Click thru for details)
Congrats AMHS NSBE!!
The Arabia Mountain High School Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers had an excellent weekend at the Annual Region 3 Conference at the Sheraton Hotel. Three of our officers, Ousmane Ndiaye, Amanda Turner, and Tarrance Nealey, placed 2nd in the Regional Math Competition, beating out students from 6 other states.   
YAC and SADD Sponsors Bullying Panel Discussion

The AMHS Youth Action Center and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) hosted a bullying workshop and panel at Arabia Mountain High School. In the workshop, attendees were able to test their knowledge by taking a fact or fiction quiz about bullying. Then, students created a skit that stressed the importance of descriptive versus judgmental language.

After School Loitering Policy
All students who are not participating in school-sponsored activities must vacate the building and leave the premises no later than 4:00pm daily. District 5 School Board Representative

Vickie B. Turner is an educator with over 24 years of experience and is a 20+ year DeKalb County resident. She is co-pastor of Augustine Chapel with her husband. Turner has a Masters of Education from Troy State University and a Bachelors of Science from Bowling Green State University. She currently oversees the day-to-day operations of The Augustine Preparatory Academy of Atlanta (TAPAA) which was formed from Cathedral Academy (est. 1984).
