On July 25-28, 2017, Georgia 4-H hosted the 75th Annual State 4-H Congress at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Dunwoody, Georgia. State 4-H Congress is the premier competition and recognition event for high school age Georgia 4-H’ers and includes competition in project areas, tours and acknowledgment of 4-H members who have excelled throughout the program year. AMHS 2017 graduate Artis Trice competed in the Fruits, Vegetables, and Nuts category and won 1st place and became DeKalb’s second master 4-H’er in more than 18 years. Artis will attend Kennesaw State University in the fall to major in International Affairs. He has been a member of 4-H since 7th grade. Ansley Lockett is also 2017 graduate of Arabia Mountain High School and plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall and pursue a degree in Food Science. Ansley competed in the Food Safety and Preservation project during State Congress. Ansley has been a member of 4-H since 4th grade and competed in DPA every year. Additionally, Dalean Thompson joined 4-H as junior at Arabia Mountain High and completed her first project as a Senior in Environmental Science. Dalean placed third during the State Congress competition. Dalean will also attend Kennesaw State in the fall and major in Environmental Science.

Four International Club Students travelled over the summer to South Korea with AMHS Spanish teacher, Adelia Kim and accompanied by two parents.  Ms. Kim took the students to Seoul, Gyeongju, and Busan where they explored different cultures, tasted different foods and saw amazing historical architecture.  Students attending the trip were rising Sophomore Ariel Bragg and three 2017 AMHS graduates Artis Trice, Chante' Lively, and Nia Morrison.  It was an awesome experience for everyone on the trip!

Arabia Mountain High School 2017 graduate Nia Morrison and Principal Swanson were both featured recently on an episode of Georgia Public Broadcasting's Georgia Outdoors.  In the program titled "New Conservationists," Nia discusses her LEAF internship experience with the Nature Conservancy and the importance of conservation education while Dr. Swanson discusses Arabia Mountain High School's environmental education programs and our connection to the Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve.  Please use the link below to view the program on GPB's website.
