1. Energy Efficiency and Conservation Lesson · Ask students to write definitions for Efficiency and Conservation as they think they relate to energy. Allow several students to share their definitions. · Review the beginning of the Efficiency and Conservation document as a class. Use the discussion questions below. Put the document on your Promethean board so students can see the charts. · Introduction and Energy Efficiency and Conservation Sections– - Why does the US consume the largest amount of energy?
- Do you feel like you could modify your behaviors to conserve energy? How?
2. Energy Efficiency & Conservation Brochure Activity (Rubric) 200 points Jigsaw Activity 100 points ( http://www.jigsaw.org/) o Divide the class into groups of four. o Have each member in the group choose a number 1-4. o View the Energy Efficiency and Conservation.pdf document from the Spring Resources tab. Based on their number they should read the following segments of the document at least two times and highlight or underline key ideas and concepts to become their groups expert on that topic. 1 – Residential/Commercial – Landscaping, 2 – appliances – lighting, 3 – Transportation, 4 – Industry o Each expert should move to join the experts of the same topics from each group. All 1’s will be together, 2’s together, and so on. Each group should discuss the information they felt was important about their section. o Return back to the original jig saw group. o Each expert should present their information to the group. Brochure (200 points) Each group should compile a brochure highlighting the key concepts from the four topic areas 1 – Comparing Energy Use of Selected Countries &Residential/Commercial; 2. Heating & Cooling to Landscaping; 3 – Appliances, Lighting, & Water Heating; 4 – Transportation & Industry. o Select 2-3 groups to present to the class. Have the person who is not the expert on the topic present that portion of the information. |
